Walker: “One of the biggest issues people may or may not be aware of is the situation with water in the rural areas. There is a moratorium on new buildings, so how does this happen right? Well they really wanted to be here, so they said we’re going to look for a water source. They did hire a well company to do some testing and were able to find and secure the water they need for this project.”
Gubbels: “You know I feel for the area on that, but overcoming the water issue we had to find a piece of ground that we could build a well on and that’s how we overcame it. Where we’re standing today was really a year and a half-long process and probably a year of that was the water.”
The Nebraska City site is the fifth in the state since 2013 and joins 50 facilities in the country.
Gubbels said the company’s success is tied to many details, but a single priority.
Gubbels: “It’s honestly because we care about our customers making money and doing well and that’s our one drive.”
Hefty Seeds Sales Agronomist Mike Wiese said the company times its purchases in bulk, offers the lower prices to farmers and stores the products until they are needed, hence the large warehouse.
