About Us

Nestled along the banks of the mighty Missouri River in southeastern Nebraska, Nebraska City is where historic charm meets natural beauty. Located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 75 and Nebraska Highway 2 — and just minutes from Interstate 29 — our welcoming community offers the perfect getaway that feels worlds away, yet remains an easy drive from Omaha, Lincoln, and even Kansas City. With a population of just over 7,000, Nebraska City offers the warmth of a small town with the experiences of a much larger destination.

Proudly recognized by the Nebraska State Legislature as Nebraska’s oldest incorporated city (established March 2, 1855), our community embraces its rich history while celebrating a vibrant present. Stroll past beautifully preserved buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, explore the scenic bluff views that once caught the attention of explorers at the Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Center, or relax among the trees at the renowned Arbor Day Foundation. Founded here in 1972, the Foundation continues to inspire visitors from around the world, and its picturesque Lied Lodge & Conference Center offers a peaceful, resort-like retreat surrounded by nature.

Nebraska City is perhaps best known as the proud birthplace of Arbor Day and home to the beloved AppleJack Festival — one of the Midwest’s most celebrated fall harvest traditions, drawing tens of thousands of visitors each year. Art and creativity also flourish here at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, where artists from across the country bring fresh energy and inspiration to our community. From the whimsical sculptures of An Enchanted Arboretum to our tree-lined streets and friendly local shops, Nebraska City is a place where great ideas grow, memories are made, and visitors quickly feel right at home. Whether you're planning a weekend escape or searching for a place to put down roots, we invite you to discover the charm of Nebraska City.
