Nebraska City is located within Otoe County in southeastern Nebraska. The city sits on the eastern edge of Otoe County and is bordered by the Missouri River and the State of Iowa to the east. Nebraska City is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 75 and Nebraska State Highway 2; also, Interstate 29 is located three miles to the east in Iowa.

The Nebraska State Legislature has credited Nebraska City as being the oldest incorporated city in the state. The city’s population sits just over 7,000 and its limits cover over 4 square miles.

The City of Nebraska City functions under the Commission form of government for cities in Nebraska. The governmental functions of Nebraska City, Nebraska, are provided and coordinated by the City Council, comprised of five (5) elected officials, including a Mayor.

Nebraska City is home to Arbor Day, the National Arbor Day Foundation, and our annual AppleJack Festival.
